Easter weekend is here! Holidays should be times spent with family and friends and filled with fun and laughter.
Fun times can often mean unhealthy foods and decisions. How can you make healthier decisions and still enjoy your holiday weekend? Be mindful. Think before you act. If you want to eat a food, think of how it will make you feel. Are the short-term benefits worth the long-term side effects?
5 Tricks for a Healthy Holiday Weekend
Here are 5 ways to stay healthy during a holiday weekend:
1. Choose only 1 indulgent meal per day. This way you can still indulge and participate without feeling left out. If you eat healthily the majority of the day, the one meal will affect you much less. Just remember to keep it to one meal, not a five-hour stint of unhealthy eating. Ideally, this is for a one-, two-, or three-day holiday weekend. As soon as the holidays are finished, get right back onto your healthy eating plan.
2. Do a fun fitness activity. Easter is the perfect time for a hike. Try a tandem bike ride. Play a sport. Anything fun and active works to get your heart pumping.
3. Go for a family (and/or friends) walk. Choose your favorite spot, explore a new area, or even walk wherever you are at. This is a great way to enjoy more quality time and get some light exercise in.
4. Drink lots of water. It’s easy to forget to drink enough water when on vacation or just enjoying a day off. Water will give you more energy and help you eat less. Try to drink a glass of water when you wake up, before, during and after exercise, at your meals, and whenever you have access to water or drinks.
5. Have enough protein. Holidays often mean more meals out. Typically, eating out makes it harder to get enough protein. For each meal, notice what protein there is. If your meal doesn’t have much protein, try adding some. A lot of restaurants will add pine nuts or other nuts, tofu, or chicken/turkey if you eat meat.
Holiday Health and Fitness
The key to staying motivated and sticking with your nutrition and fitness plan is being mindful of what you truly want. When you have your goals in mind, it’s much easier to make good choices for you. It doesn’t matter what your friends or family are doing around you. You have the choice to do what’s right for you. Enjoy your holiday! Happy Easter! 🙂

Drinking more water is something I need to grasp hold of!! I try counting calories, but I do my best to burn some off first. If I want a chocolate bar for 400 calories I make sure I work it off before I have it :)!! Here’s to some easter eggs 😉
Yes, the holidays is the easiest time to gain a few extra unwanted pounds. Its hard to say no to that last juicy pie of cherry pie 😉 However I love your idea of only eating one indulgent meal per day, instead of 2-3! Other articles just say to skip out on the desserts all together, and that is just too hard. But I think that I can only eat 1 a day, that seems fair enough. I also wanted to say that along with your wonderful meal tips, I also try to do video workout programs as much as I can over the weekend. My favorite one can be found here: http://workouttrainingreview.com/what-is-focus-t25/. So now with your meal tips and my workout programs I won’t have to worry about the holidays coming up! Thank you so much for your wonderful advice!
