Chrissy’s Favorite Makeup Tip

September 13, 2010 By Christina ChitwoodMakeup Tips

Isn’t it the worst thing when you’re finishing your makeup and doing the final touches with mascara, when suddenly you blink and you’ve got a smudge? Then you may get some water and try to remove the smudge without messing up the rest of your makeup, but it still takes off part of either your eye shadow or foundation.

You manage to get the smudge removed, and then you have to reapply your foundation and/or eye shadow to make it all even again. It ends up looking fine ultimately, but it may be a bit uneven. You shrug your shoulders and say, “What can I do? I tried.”

Well, luckily, I’m going to share my favorite makeup tip, which I use A LOT. This tip has really made a difference in my everyday makeup and show makeup experience. What is it? A Q-tip or cotton swab (cotton bud as they call it in Great Britain). Sound simple? It is, but it really helps.

What to do with mascara troubles:

1. A mascara smudge occurs.

2. Wait around 20 seconds or enough time for the smudge to dry slightly.

3. Take a Q-tip and place it on the mascara smudge.

4. Place the tip or round part of the Q-tip on the smudge and twirl the Q-tip (it may be a one-rotation twirl or multiple-rotation twirl, depending on the size of the smudge).

5. The excess mascara should come off where it shouldn’t be and end up on your Q-tip. The rest of your makeup stays in place, and you’ve removed any mascara that has smudged.

Note: You don’t need water for this! Also, if you have quite a big smudge, you may need more than one Q-tip. That way, the mascara you’ve removed doesn’t rub back onto your skin.

Try it! It does really work and is so much quicker. You don’t need water or a makeup wipe – and the rest of your make up continues to look great! I’d like to thank Hannah Maxwell who taught me this trick when I attended the a makeup course in London earlier this year.

Next time you smudge your mascara when you’re about to rush off to work or on stage to perform, you don’t need to panic or worry about removing it. You can relax, knowing you can remove it quickly and easily. You no longer have to look in the mirror and go “Oh, no!”

So true! My mom always finished her mascara application by running a q-tip above and below her eye to grab any smudges without ruining the rest of her makeup. Great tip!

Stopping by to say “Hi” from iFellowship! So glad you linked up today – I love meeting new people!
