Thoughts on the week –
Well, for half of the week I was in Hawaii, surfing, swimming, kayaking, walking, doing gym workouts and relaxing! Since I’ve been back work has been pretty hectic. So two extremes really and neither leaving much time for golf. Before going away I felt a little burnt out from practice and struggled for motivation. After a week of not really thinking about golf, I now feel hungry to improve again! Practice was slow to get back into after the break but has gone very well so far.
I’m happy with how my workouts have been going. I had lots of energy on vacation and enjoyed being active. Paddling on a surfboard is a great upper-body workout and great fun. If you haven’t tried it, I strongly recommend giving it a go!
I had been toying with the idea of trying to get all my practice and workouts done in the morning. I will experiment with this next week.
What you can learn from my experience
Well, this might be an obvious one, but you need a break every now and then. From whatever you do … golf, workouts, jobs, etc.
Have you ever sat down with a task or problem, set to work at it, and burned yourself out trying to solve it … only to walk away from it to go do something else and then the answer just magically appeared in your mind?
This is a serendipitous moment where your subconscious works something out for you without you really knowing! Of course your mind needs to be fed the information, problem, parameters, etc. But a little time away from a challenging task can often lead to serendipity.
Goals for next week –
I have tested out a new morning training schedule by July 3rd.
