Beat the Heat This Summer – Sun Protection Clothing and Accessories

July 10, 2013 By TomBeat the Heat

Last week I showed you some cool/goofy ways to wear your Frogg Toggs chilly pad to keep you cool. This week I will suggest ways to deal with those pesky sun rays.

As I end up being out in the San Diego sun for long periods of time, I need to take steps to protect myself from the sun. Of course sun screen SPF 50 or higher is a great way to protect your skin. But I have a few other clothing and accessory tips to help you stay healthy in the heat.

Beat the Heat This Summer - Solar Sleeves

Hat

Kind of a no brainer really. Keep the sun off of your head and out of your eyes. If your hair is thick, you might prefer a visor to stay a little cooler. If your neck tends to burn easily, you might want to try a full-brimmed hat.

Sunglasses

More and more tour pros are starting to wear sunglasses for playing. I wear Maxx HD GT Adult Sun Glasses. They have yellow-tint lenses, which cut out the glare but really define green colors. A good pair of sunglasses should provide UV protection. The HD maxx are a good, inexpensive pair.

Solar Sleeves

I Recently got a pair of NIKE DRI-FIT SOLARSLEEVES. They are comfortable to wear, provide 30SPF protection and really aren’t any hotter than having bare arms.

With these extra items I can stay almost 100% covered from the sun, have improved vision in bright light and stay cool.

Scorching heat is a constant feature of Indian summer. Hence the attire should suit this kind of climate. When it comes to the choice of material, the best choice is pure cotton. Its porous nature helps the skin breathe and thus keeps the body cool. It is absolutely natural and hence prevents all kinds of allergies that are otherwise caused by synthetic materials especially during summer. Often we hear that cool whites, blues and any light colors are the best! That’s true!! White or light colors reflect the heat whereas dark colors absorb heat. The overall aesthetic effect of whites and lights is also good in summer.

Hey nice article.. Thank you for sharing this informative post. I think all these accessories are very important to protect our skin from sun rays as these rays are very harmful for us and can cause skin diseases. Each one has its own importance. I also prefer to wear a hat and sunglasses when I went out in the summers because I am very concious about my skin.

I keep on searching clothes to wear this summer to protect me from the sun. It’s getting hot here and I can’t go somewhere because of the sunlight and I don’t have the right clothes to wear. I looks weird if I wear too thick jacket.
