If you find yourself starting to fall back into poor eating habits, make sure to have some “go to” healthy recipes to fall back on. You can find healthy recipes right here. To make a healthy meal on the quick, it helps to have ingredients ready. Try to keep these items in stock at home, and a healthy meal can be yours anytime.
- Eggs – They are so useful. You can scramble them, poach them, fry them or boil them to name a few methods. You can find an egg dish to suit any craving situation. Lots of protein and many healthy fats.
- Lentils – Perfect for vegetarians due to their high protein and iron content. Check out this lentil stew recipe for an idea on how to use these awesome little pulses. They are great as an entree or side dish.
- Quinoa – A great alternative to rice. It packs more protein than rice and tastes better in my opinion. Perfect as a side dish or as part of an entree. Try making a nice spicy chili with quinoa and kidney beans.
- Fresh Spinach – Super versatile and good for you. It might not make your arms instantly bulge like Popeye, but it can be mixed into pretty much anything. You can have it as a salad, mixed in with eggs, lentils or quinoa or added to a sandwich. Spinach contains a good amount of protein for a vegetable and lots of iron … great for vegetarians who may struggle to find both of these nutrients.
- Whey protein – Again, super versatile. Whey can be used as a post-workout snack, part of a smoothie, in baking or on the go mixed with water. Whey has lots of protein that can turn an average smoothie into a fantastic breakfast.
So there you have it: 5 ingredients no one should ever be without. You can make many quick, healthy meals using these items. So, stock up!
