Check out these 5 healthy snack ideas:
1. Low fat Greek yoghurt – Very high in protein and low in fat. The protein will give you sustained energy whilst feeling very light on your body. Perfect as a snack mixed with some berries.
2. Chocolate peanut butter banana smoothie – One of my favorites. Add about 8 ounces of milk (I prefer almond milk) into a blender. Add in a chopped banana, 2 tablespoons peanut butter and half a serving of chocolate whey powder. Blend and enjoy. Yes, this snack has a fair few calories from the fat in the peanut butter, but these are healthy natural fats. Lots of energy-providing potassium from the banana and protein to give a steady release of fuel for hours.
3. Vegetable juice – This is like rocket fuel for your body! Try juicing 5-6 green kale leaves, 1 lemon, 1 lime, 3 green apples, 2 lbs. carrots. Try to get organic produce whenever possible. This will produce enough juice for about 4 glasses of nutrient-packed juice. It is incredibly easy for your body to digest and retrieve with no downtime spent digesting. Try it … very tasty, very refreshing and feels great on your body
4. Trail mix – Make your own trail mix. It’s cheaper and customizable to your tastes! Buy your favorite nuts & raisins and other dried fruit in bulk. Mix together into smaller bags. Done! Nuts provide a good amount of protein and healthy fats and Omega-3 & Omega-6 fatty acids. Some dried fruit has a slower release of energy than its fresh counterparts so not as much sugar spike. Still aim for a 2:1 ratio of nuts:dried fruit.
5. Fruit – Nature’s candy to the rescue. An apple, a banana, some berries, an orange … they all have a slightly different combination of vitamins and minerals. Getting enough vitamins and minerals is the easiest and quickest way to feel more energetic.
Happy snacking!
