What I did to achieve my Goal
Still been feeling pretty ill this week and lacked motivation. I struggled to set a monthly goal as it is unclear when and where my next tournament will come from. Managed a bit more gym work but it has been tough with this lingering cold.
Time spent on full swing – 3 hours
Time spent on shots inside 100 yards – 1 hours
Time spent on putting – 1.5 hours
Rounds played this week, where, score, fairways/greens/putts
Encinitas Ranch – 76, Fairways 7/13, Greens 11/18, Putts 34
Time spent in the gym – 3 hours + stretching
Workouts I did –
Thursday – Full body strength
Friday –
Saturday –
Sunday –
Monday –
Tuesday – Mobility and lower body strength
Wednesday – Full body strength
Thoughts on the week –
Major shortfall this week. I missed all my goals and still felt exhausted. Felt like an uphill struggle. I made good progress in the practice sessions I had and played well in places at Encinitas.
This was my first time playing at Encinitas Ranch. Fairly decent play for most of the round. I got into decent scoring positions but putted poorly and didn’t take my chances. By the end of the round I was frustrated and dropped 4 shots on the last 3 holes. Walked off the course feeling pretty low!
Lessons to be learned there!
After assessing the last 2 weeks, I feel I have my drive to improve back and will be keeping to a tighter schedule in the aim of staying tournament ready and continuing my improvement.
What you can learn from my experience
Be a Mental Rocky Balboa!
I was angry with myself this week. Not for lacking motivation. Not for missing lots of birdie putts. Not for missing my goals. But for allowing myself to succumb to the frustration of missed chances.
Dealing with not taking chances can be as tough if not tougher than dealing with mistakes. It can feel like there is no hope as great chances continue to slip through your fingers.
Train yourself to be tough and patient, whether the disappointment is a bad shot into trouble or a great chance that got away. Shrug it off and get back in the game!
Goals for next week –
Well, I didn’t meet any of these goals last week so I will try again this week! My Goal for June is to write a weekly schedule to accommodate my weekly goals.
I practice putting for 30 mins a day 6 days a week by June 6th
I practice wedges shots inside 100 yards 1 hour per day 3 days per week by June 6th
I practice hitting a variety of shots with a patient tempo on and off the course 1 hour per day 6 days per week by June 6th
I spend 5 hours per week training physically by June 6th
