Eyebrow Waxing
For years, I got my eyebrows waxed. Whenever I had my eyebrows waxed, I left the salon with bright red skin. This always lasted at least a day. Sometimes a patch of skin would come off during the waxing, too. If this happened, it was painful and would not look normal for weeks until the skin grew back. I really liked the groomed and pretty look of well-maintained eyebrows, but I never knew what to expect even at high-end spas.
Tweezing my eyebrows in-between waxing worked well in helping it last longer. I would only tweeze where hair had grown back where it had been waxed. It often felt like my eyebrows would just start to look good, and then they would need to be waxed again.
Eyebrow Threading
I’d seen and heard a little about threading, but I thought it might be more painful since the hairs are removed in fewer amounts at a time than waxing. It seemed like getting the pain over within a few big strips would be better. After a little research, I was convinced to give eyebrow threading a go. I’d discovered that eyebrow threading is often better than waxing because it removes the hair directly from the root and no skin is removed in the process. It could possibly even mean less wrinkles and distress of the skin above the eyes because there would be no hot wax and strips pulling at them every few weeks.
I decided I would try eyebrow threading at a small place I’d seen in the UTC mall in San Diego. I was pleasantly surprised that although threading was painful at times, overall it was much less painful than waxing. I was also very happy with the shape it gave my eyebrows. It was a much cleaner and defined look than waxing. The threading looked better for longer, too. I still needed to go every few weeks to get it done, but I was hooked on threading!
Now I’ve been getting my eyebrows threaded for years, and I’m very happy with the results! It’s quick and there are many threading places in malls. I typically go to a mall near me in San Diego!
How Do You Get Your Eyebrows Threaded?
Getting your eyebrows threaded is nice and simple!
- Find a place that does eyebrow threading near you.
- Go there every few weeks or when you feel you need your eyebrows touched up.
- Most everywhere, you can walk in and you just have to wait if there are any people before you. The actual threading is quick, typically 10 minutes or less. Just be aware if it feels too quick. They may not be as thorough at certain salons and your hairs may grow back quicker or your eyebrows may not look as good.
That’s it! When you find a place you like, it’s nice to stick with them to make sure your eyebrows look the same. However, I’ve used many different places and even tried threading when traveling out of San Diego. The key when going to a new threading salon is to just ask for a touch-up and say you like the shape you have. Then they won’t remove extra hair than you’re used to or try to shape your eyebrows differently.
What Is Eyebrow Threading Like?
Eyebrow threading is quite a simple process.

You will get your eyebrows threaded with what almost looks like a piece of floss. One to a few hairs are generally removed at a time.

After your eyebrows have been threaded, the eyebrow threader will typically trim and sometimes tweeze a few random hairs to get an exact finish.

After the threading, trimming, and tweezing, the threader will often brush away any hairs off your face. They threader will also will typically offer you a cooling gel and put it on your eyebrows and surrounding skin.

Once your eyebrows are finished, you will be shown your eyebrows in a mirror. This is to make sure they look how you want. Don’t be afraid to speak up if you want more hair removed or something a little different. I know it can be tricky to ask for something more, but it is part of the service. If you’re happy with how they look, thank the eyebrow threader and enjoy your freshly groomed eyebrows!
To Thread or Not to Thread
To thread or not to thread … I just had to say that! I definitely recommend threading wholeheartedly!
