I love traveling, and I love it even more now that I’m a mom. Traveling with my little family is so special. I’m sharing my favorite casual travel outfits for flights and how you can easily make minor changes to the outfits!

Outfits modeled by me, Christina Chitwood, and also with our 20-month-old son, Caleb. Photos taken by my husband, Tom.

Favorite Casual Travel Outfits for Flights
Tom, Caleb, and I just got back from Kauai, Hawaii, and I wanted to share how many of these items made traveling by airplane easier, less stressful, and more comfortable! These are items that can easily be swapped out to change the look of the outfit, and I give ideas by the items below.
How to Shop Each Outfit
To shop the outfits, click on the image of the individual item below each of my photos or click on the links where there are links (Use the left and right arrows next to the item to see all the items.).

Cardigan: A cozy and comfortable cardigan is perfect for flying. I tend to get cold when we’re on the airplane and warm when I’m walking around the airport. This way I can put the cardigan in my tote or carry-on suitcase while I’m walking around the airport and take it out for the flight. I love the two cardigans pictured (cardigan in photo above and cardigan in photo below) and use them all the time To change the look: change the cardigan or wear a jacket instead.
Camisole: A camisole is a great layering piece. It’s easy to stay cool while walking around the airport in a cami. Cardigans look fabulous over camisoles for when you’re on the flight, too. To change the look: change the camisole or wear a tee or lightweight long-sleeved top.

Jeans: I like to wear jeans because my legs tend to get cold on a flight. You could wear leggings if you prefer.
Easy to Get on and off Shoes: If I’m going somewhere warm I like to wear slide sandals. They are super-simple for going through security. Just slip them off and put them in the bin. Then slide them back on once they’ve gone through security. Having easy-to-get-on shoes when you have a baby or toddler is so helpful! P.S. I bring a pair of socks in my tote bag in case my feet get cold on the flight.
You could also wear mules, flip flops, slip-on sneakers, or other easy-to-get-on shoes. If it’s colder where you’re traveling from or to, you could wear UGGs or other easy-to-get-on boots or booties.
Crossbody Bag or Convertible Crossbody/Belt Bag (that fits in my tote bag): A small handbag that’s easy to carry or a tote bag makes airport travel simple. It’s a bonus if the crossbody bag can be a belt bag, too. Then you can put it on as a belt bag sometime after security and you can focus on your flight.
Tote Bag (that fits under my seat): A tote bag is simple to put your small handbag in. If you have the right size tote, it will fit under pretty much any seat (even when the aisle seat has less storage space under it). I like to put a tote bag organizer in mine to help keep it neater. I can keep activities for Caleb in there as well as a Kindle or book for times when Caleb’s sleeping or focused on an activity. I also put my socks in there.
Rolling Carry On Suitcase: I find a rolling carry-on suitcase is so useful, especially when it fits most airline carry-on luggage size requirements. I love my rolling carry-on suitcase that fits this description!
Baby/Toddler Hip Carrier: This baby/toddler hip carrier that also can be a regular baby carrier is a life saver in the airport! Caleb’s been loving to be held by me and even though he walks lots, he’s at an extra cuddly stage (which I love!). The hip carrier is great because I can so quickly and easily put him down so he can walk when he wants to. When Caleb wants to be carried I can pick him right up and place him on my hip carrier without adjusting straps or anything. Since Caleb is a tall 20 month old, it’s useful to have the extra support, especially when I can have an arm free for other luggage.
Stroller: If you’re traveling with a baby or toddler under 2 years old, a stroller can be really useful! Even if your baby or toddler isn’t riding in the stroller, you can use it to carry you other things. A stroller is especially helpful for naps at the airport or during your vacation (particularly if your little one doesn’t tend to nap in a baby carrier any more)! We absolutely love our Uppababy Vista stroller, and this newer version Uppababy Vista looks amazing!
