Is Cleaning Bad for Your Health?

May 14, 2014 By Christina Chitwoodhealth, Wellbeing

Is Cleaning Bad for Your HealthWe think a lot about what we put in our bodies. Not so much about what we put on and around our bodies. Diet and nutrition is of course very important if you want to be healthy and look and feel your best. But what about the products you use on yourself and around your home… products you are inhaling or absorbing through your skin?

Cleaning Products

I remember working at one of my first jobs growing up – cleaning out the oven. The bleach cleaner was so strong I could feel it dissolving my finger tips (yes, I should have worn gloves, but we didn’t have any). Who knows what the fumes did to my insides?! This product was a commercial oven cleaner and no doubt stronger than the kind you use. Still, it makes you wonder what your cleaning products are hiding. Many cleaners will have multiple warning labels: “Harmful”, “Toxic”, “Irritant”. Why would you want products like that in your house? Products that could harm you, your family, and your pets.

Recipes

Try out these Non Toxic Recipes for cleaner cleaning products from Earth Easy. I have used vinegar-based cleaning solutions before to provide a cat-friendly way to clean the house. Watch for more recipes and ideas on this topic. We are having a serious overhaul of the home products we use. In the meantime, I’d love to hear how you get on with them. Please comment below with your findings!
