Is Performing on Ice the Same as Theatre?

November 1, 2010 By Christina ChitwoodFigure Skating Performance, Performance Appreciation

People go to the theatre to see a play to be entertained. It may be a love of the arts or maybe a relaxing night out that inspires a trip to the theatre. There are many reasons to attend the theatre.

People also go to an on-ice performance to be entertained. Again it could be a relaxing night out or love of on-ice performances. However, it could be a love of sports as well that inspires a trip to an ice event.

I’ve performed both on the stage and on the ice. I was first an on-ice performer, and that made performing on stage an easy transition and very enjoyable, too.

Here are 5 similarities that performing on the ice and performing on the stage have in common.

1. The audience is separate from the performer. The audience may feel a part of the performance, but there is typically a separation from the audience seating and the stage or ice surface.

2. The performers must use exaggerated actions to portray the story/performance. As noted in the previous point about the audience being a distance from the performers, this means the performers must use larger, more exaggerated movements for the audience to feel the story. Television and movies require less exaggerated movements and performing, as the performance is up close.

3. The performers use movement and actions to portray a performance. Both on-ice and on-stage performances will have other specialties that are unique to their performance, but movements and actions are used for both.

4. Facial expression is important to the performance. Leading from the first point again, facial expression must be more exaggerated than on screen while still maintaining its genuineness.

5. Performers practice and rehearse their shows until performance ready. Most performers have heard the phrase “practice makes perfect.” Some numbers may need more practice than others and performers need different amounts of practice to perform well. So, each performer finds his or her best way to practice to provide you with a great performance.

As you can see, there are similarities between performing on the ice and performing on the stage. However, there are many differences as well. I will leave that for another time.

Now that you have some of the information, what are your thoughts? Do you think performing on the ice and on the stage are very similar? Or do you think there are many differences? Enjoy performances as always, and see what you notice now!

The result is the removal of redundant data entry.
Before you’ve got any major work done in your home it will be best
to have everything written down in the contract. Unfortunately, however, this poisoning remains common in several
developing countries where lead products, including gasoline, continue to be widely used.

Dentofacial and orthodontics orthopedics: facial or tooth
deformities owing to intentional damage, accidents and also birth
defects are treated by such specialist. The sole reason for this is
so that they do not render their orthodontic courses
redundant by not keeping up. Pupils enrolled in an on-line program can teach in places

Hello! Quick question that’s totally off topic. Do you know how to make your site mobile friendly?
My site looks weird when viewing from my iphone4.
I’m trying to find a theme or plugin that might be able to correct this issue.
If you have any recommendations, please share. Many thanks!
