Week 1: It’s Amazing How Quickly I Felt Good Again!
I’ve completed my first week of my 6-month nutrition and fitness experiment! I feel great! I’ve had more energy, my body feels lighter, and my body feels like it’s letting go of all the bad food I’ve had over the past week! This was the ideal time to start this experiment (even though it may be the most difficult time with the holidays around the corner), as it was right after Thanksgiving.
It’s been a good feeling to think about a healthy Christmas and not having to get into a health kick as soon as I get back to my normal schedule. It’s great to imagine how good I will feel keeping up this healthy lifestyle through the holidays. I know it will be very tricky willpower-wise, but it’s exciting at the same time!
Another thing you should know is that my husband, Tom, and I bought a house with my brother, Will, and sister-in-law, Chea. So, I will mention them in reference. We all tend to be healthy in general, but we all have sweets as our downfall. So, if someone else in the house is eating sugar, that’s a good test. Read on below to see how my week went!
Sunday, November 25th:
I actually feel as though I started on Saturday evening as that’s when I wrote down my goals for the next six months. Today is the first day of my nutrition plan, though. It felt great to detox after being not so healthy the past week over Thanksgiving. I didn’t do anything dramatic, just started eating sugar free, dairy free, and gluten free. The Carrot, Broccoli, and Garbanzo Bean Casserole we made was lovely. A great dinner to start the week off. (Note: I’ll publish the recipe on Thursday!)
I also did the P90X Kenpo workout. This workout usually is one of the easiest P90X workouts for me. However, today it was way more difficult than normal. It just shows what unhealthy food does. It felt great to get moving after the plane trip on Saturday evening.
Day 1 complete and feeling great to start the next day!
Monday, November 26th:
On Mondays, I wake up at 4:30am to get ready for work and start my day. I felt fairly energetic getting out of bed, which was extra nice. That usually doesn’t kick in until I’m ready to get in the car or go into work. I’m also naturally a night owl, so the past week I was on a later sleep schedule than normal.
I did my workout on schedule in my break time late morning. Workouts are already starting to feel much easier! It was an easy day to eat healthy and on plan. I didn’t struggle with cravings at all today, and I rarely thought about sweets.
Day 2 complete and ready for the next!
Tuesday, November 27th:
It was nice to get more caught up on everything now after the trip last week. I did chest, shoulders, and triceps workout today with Tom, and I’m feeling back to normal again. I enjoyed the new recipe I tried today: Thick and Chunky Tortilla Soup. Its base is primarily sweet potato with lots of spices. I made the tortilla chips.
Day 3 complete. It’s amazing that I started to feel good again in no time!
Wednesday, November 28th:
Today the 4:30am start hit me more. Once I got going I was good, though. My cardio workout was tough today, and I felt like there was something stuck in my throat. A lot of my students have been sick this week. I hope I can avoid it through healthy habits. I’ll have a much better shot at staying healthy, that’s for sure!
Today was the first day since starting the 6-months that I felt cravings quite a lot. It wasn’t too bad until the evening when after dinner some of the others brought out some leftover Halloween candy. I resisted, of course, and I decided to have some frozen berries.
Day 4 complete and craving conquered!
Thursday, November 29th:
Today I accomplished a lot and it flew by! I did an awesome legs workout that Tom put together. Wow, my legs felt tired after! I felt energized and happy today! No cravings to report today.
Day 5 complete … nice and easy day of eating healthy!
Friday, November 30th:
Today was my one rest day of the week for workouts. Interestingly, it was also my toughest day of cravings so far. Usually in the past, the weekends (and sometimes during the week) is when I will have sweets. So, it makes sense that my cravings were higher for chocolate today. I enjoyed some quality time with Tom and a healthy home cooked meal.
Day 6 complete and cravings conquered again!
Saturday, December 1st:
I started the day off with my favorite P90X workout: Cardio X. I love the versatility of Cardio X. The combination of cardio, plyometrics, Kenpo, and yoga leaves my body feeling great and energized for the day. I felt great today (a little tired in the evening). My cravings were much lower today, which is awesome because I used to almost always have a sweet on Saturday.
Plus, I got a compliment on my skin today! I was asked what I do to make it so smooth and pretty. My answer: I use sunscreen; I exfoliate and moisturize; I regularly exercise and try to eat healthy!
Day 7 complete and feeling awesome!
I’m so excited to have completed my first week! I feel like what I ate that was unhealthy last week is gone from my body. It feels as if I’ve detoxed for much longer than a week. I know in reality it takes much longer than a week of being healthy to really get the benefits, but I’m happy to feel so good already. This week I felt happy, healthy, and good in my body!
For a listing of each week’s posts, see my original post: My 6-Month Nutrition and Fitness Experiment.
It’s great to hear you are having a good time with P90X. I originally lost 70 pounds with the program. I liked your comment about the sunscreen too I’ll have to use that tip. I’m outside WAY too much and honestly don’t do the right thing (wear sunscreen, exfoliate, etc).
Thanks for sharing!
I read your post from few days and I realize your information really looks like expert. I personally think natural weight loss is better than using medial treatment and other unnatural ways. I don’t dislike exercise but every body can’t make exercise for old reason. So I totally agree with your provide information and Thanks for your hard work.
I’ve been looking at the P90X workout so great to hear good things about it, I also did a great detox a couple of months back called Clean 9 – a great nutritional cleanse for 9 days after which I felt fantastic – best of luck with the rest of the program
Wow good job on committing to P90X. I agree that Kenpo X can be an easier workout as you mentioned in your post. I had, what my wife and I called, a “fat week”, where we were just cheating a bit more than normal. It totally killed my workouts and I was left pretty disappointed. I totally hear you on the unhealthy eating concern.
Thanks for the great post!
Sounds like you have a good life. Very impressive!
Awesome strategy towards staying healthy and fit.
I definitely follow the strategy of healthy diet and that usually starts with every morning with a blended juice mixer … usually mix of primarily fruits … and maybe a few vegetables here and there. Berries, strawberries, and bananas. Always good!
