Thoughts on the week – Very busy work week this week, so I had planned for a light practice week. I did play a 9-hole mini tournament with some of my students each day. Although I am concentrating on my students and helping them perform their best, any practice is better than none.

Looking at my scores as the week progressed, a little bit of time away from swing mechanics and time spent on relaxed playing and scoring certainly seemed to help.

What you can learn from my experience?

Like the Nike slogan says “JUST DO IT”

If you have ever read any golf psychology books or any sports psychology books, they will all say pretty much the same thing. You perform your best when you trust your body. Just do – don’t think!

The thinking conscious mind is great for complex thought process but pretty bad at complex movement control. That is way better left up to the subconscious mind.

Probably the best book out there is Tim Gallwey’s The Inner Game of Golf. It has great descriptions and really useful exercises. For many golfers, the quickest way to improve would be to focus on the mental aspect of the game.

Goals for next week –

I complete 45 minutes of practice per day by July 31st 2013
