Where does confidence come from? It often comes from completing a task, meeting a deadline, accomplishing something or knowing you are good at something. But we all have times where deadlines are near, tasks seem impossible and we find things hard. In these times our confidence often takes a hit, which just tends to make things worse really. What if there was something simple you could do to raise your confidence today?! Well, there is!
Including resistance training into your weekly schedule can help to boost your confidence in what your body is capable of. The knowledge that your body can lift a certain weight for a number of repetitions can certainly raise your confidence levels on the golf course – and off it too.
There are in fact many mental benefits of resistance training:
- Confidence in your own physical capabilities
- Discipline gained from keeping to a training routine
- Raised self esteem due to physical changes
- Stress relief
- The “feel good” factor immediately after training
- Increased focus
These are all aspects that will have a massive effect on your golf game and your whole life! Who can honestly say they wouldn’t like to be more focused, confident or disciplined?… Not too many.
So if you are looking to improve your mental state on and off the golf course, try challenging your body.
Test yourself NOW!
Try to see how many push ups you can do before you start to arch your back and lose form. Try to beat it tomorrow. Why not keep a log, and see how much you improve over a month. It doesn’t matter if you got 1 or 100. Just keep trying to beat it.
Too hard? Try push ups on your knees instead of on your toes.
Too easy? Try plyometric push ups. Push up quickly so your hands leave the ground, clap your hands whilst off the ground and repeat.
Give this a go and see how you feel after a week. Notice if you become more confident or focused. Comment below to let us know about your progress and how you are feeling. Happy training!
