Chrissy and I are off to Hertfordshire today. Usually days out all over the country mean attending courses, but today is different … we will be racing Segways! A Segway for those of you who haven’t seen one is basically a platform with a wheel at each end and a handle. You control it by leaning forwards/backwards and side to side.
Our Segway rally experience was a gift from my parents and upon booking I did the usual thing any bloke would do when becoming aware of a new gadget … looked at the website, found you can get a cheap faulty one to fix up from eBay and thought how and where it would fit into my life.
Well I was surprised and happy to see that you can buy a golfing Segway! It has a space to attach your bag on and scorecard holder, can manage 36 holes on a charge and reach 12.5 mph.
Now I enjoy the walk and exercise of golf and don’t like to use carts or trolleys that often. But the Segway certainly does look fun, and it has to be the quickest way to get round the course. I’m not so sure golfing Segways will catch on too much as they are a bit big to transport like you would an electric trolley. I’ll see how it goes today before I put one on my Christmas list.
Please let me know if you have ever seen any in use at a club you have played!

I did a segway rally experience in Paris, it was amazing fun, I bet you enjoyed in it. I had no idea you could use one to carry your golf clubs! That is pretty cool, would be interesting to know how many courses allow them. Just thinking about the transportation of one, I bet they are pretty heavy, could be interesting getting it into a car!
