Home / Makeup Tips / Sheer or Not Too Sheer

Sheer or Not Too Sheer

October 25, 2010 By Christina ChitwoodMakeup Tips

There are so many different types of makeup foundation that it can become very confusing sometimes. Should you choose loose powder, liquid foundation, compact powder, or one of the other foundations available?

Here are some ways you can choose or be content that you have what’s right for you:

– Your Preferences! Everyone has different preferences of what foundations they like. Go with what you like and feel comfortable with!

– Coverage. Pressed powder can give a lighter, more natural coverage, whereas thicker liquid foundation can give more coverage and hide problem areas of the skin. In between the two is a cream foundation for medium coverage or a BB Cream for light coverage. Here are some ideas for using different foundation types for different occasions.

Work/Day time: Lighter coverage usually is nice for everyday wear. A compact powder or loose powder can work well for this. However, you may prefer liquid foundations. Go with what you feel most comfortable in! I have to be ready for photos and videos most of the time, so I like to wear liquid foundation with powder on top.

Evening Occasion: Sometimes it is nice to have a bit more coverage at night. A cream foundation or liquid foundation can work well for this. It can create a more dramatic look and help the skin avoid looking washed out. For lighter coverage, wear just a liquid foundation. For more coverage, add pressed powder or loose foundation over the top of your liquid or cream foundation.

Performance/Photos: When under bright lights it is easy for our skin and faces to look washed out. Thicker liquid foundations are usually the best option for photo shoots or performances. Finish with a pressed powder foundation for more coverage and to eliminate shine.

– Mineral vs. non-mineral foundation: Mineral! If you are going to choose one makeup product to be mineral, choose foundation. Foundation is the makeup that covers the most surface area of your face. So, protect your face! Using mineral foundation means your skin will be protected and healthier rather than putting chemicals on it.

Remember, you are the one wearing your makeup. So, you want to be comfortable in it. You may want coverage, comfort, ease of use, and more. Play around with it. Most of all, have fun! 🙂
