Sumo squats are a great exercise for your lower body. They work pretty much everything from the ribs down! Sumos are also a little easier to perform properly than a regular squat … perfect if you struggle with flexibility. They can be used in any type of workout. You can do them with bodyweight or add a barbell or dumbbells. They can be performed as a plyometric exercise if you turn it into a jumping sumo squat. A really useful exercise.
The Challenge
Time for a sumo battle! Grab a friend and face each other. Get your selves into your wide sumo stance as in the video. Then start squatting. Keep in time with each other and keep going until one of you stops! First one to stop is out. Do 3 rounds to decide a winner. Physical strength will only get you so far here; mental staying power will help decide the winner.
If you are doing this challenge alone, follow along with us in the video. Try to keep your timing the same as ours. Set yourself a target for how many times you go through the video. Push yourself … it’s only 2 minutes.
