Top 10 Ways to Fuel Your Body through Healthy Eating

July 6, 2013 By Christina ChitwoodFigure Skating Performance, Nutrition, Performance for Everyday Life

Christina Modeling Ellie's Double Threat Tank and Little Black CapriI have a post at Ice-Dance.com on the “Top 10 Ways to Fuel Your Body through Healthy Eating.” Here’s the beginning of the post:

Ice dance and dance in general often require the ideal “dancer’s body”. The measures that skaters and dancers take to get this “dancer’s body” can be extreme and dangerous at times. Since ice dancing is a sport, it’s more important than ever to protect your body to help ensure its longevity.

Ice dancing is becoming more technically difficult all the time. This really takes a toll on the body, increasing the risk for injuries. Therefore, fueling your body through healthy nutrition is one of the best things you can do to lengthen your career.

Here are my top 10 ways for you as a dancer to both fuel your body and maintain a “dancer’s body”:

1. Record what you eat. Keeping a food journal is a great way to track what you’re putting into your body as well as tracking your calories. Even if you’re sticking to a lower-calorie diet, if you’re not getting the nutrients your body needs, you will make less progress (and be at a greater risk for injury). It’s important to get nutrients from the healthy foods discussed in “Use Nutrition to Enhance Your Performance.”

2. View food as fuel. As an athlete, viewing food as fuel will help you perform better and to a higher intensity.

I’m glad you can eat for health and for you now instead of having to achieve a certain look for international competition. As you note, getting the lean, skinny body that seems required for skaters and dancers can be extreme and dangerous at times. I read something interesting lately, that when Belbin and Agosto switched coaches, their new coach had Belbin gain about ten pounds, and core strength. Overall the extra strength made her easier, not heavier, for Agosto to lift, despite the extra ten pounds. And that was the idea of the change. The point I guess is that leanest isn’t always the most healthy, the strongest, or even the best for competition.

Recording what you eat and keeping a journal is the best tip ever. When I first started working out, the thing that kept me motivated was keeping my journal. Each time I feel down, I look at it for motivation. Keeping track of your progress is the key, without a record of the success or failure you will lose motivation in continuing.

Keeping a food journal helps me so much to keep track of what I eat! I use an app on my phone and it gives a breakdown of not only the calories but the nutritional content. If I find myself forgetting to log in for a few days, I always over eat. Seeing the numbers helps so much.

I think having a healthy diet is as important as doing exercise. Now I try to eat as many kinds of vegetables as possible, yet I still find keeping a food journal rather difficult.

I think if your metabolism is so fragile that it needs to be fed every 2-3 hours you have a problem. Humans are an animal that should be able to go half a day unfed without grinding to a halt.

Great article although that I don’t agree that we should record what we eat all the time couse if we
cut the processed and rafined food there is really no need for that.
I love the tip number 8 and 9 ,couse that is something that many people forget to mention.
    Otherwise great article.

This is a good article for healthy eat.. My own suggestion is the gastrointestinal system has to be water first before eating anything. Some call it water therapy. Drinking water half an hour before food helps the ease aid of digestion, after meal too drink enough for same ease digestion. It really helps to fuel the in preparation of food going into the cells.. All the same it is a very useful tips you gave ma.

Recording what we eat will help to track nutrients. Apart from having nutritional diet one must have do regular exercise to increase muscle action. Problem with nutritious rich diet is you’ll feel hungry most of the time. So at regular intervals you must take energy drinks.
Yes, its expensive. But you’ll feel better.

As the saying goes, “Your body is not just made in the gym, but also in the kitchen.” I really believe that you have to follow a meal plan to be able to get any noticeable results. With that being said I really like your 9th step. How you basically say that you don’t have to force your body to eat something your don’t like, eat something that works for your body. That is great advice. Many people think that they have to eat the most healthy thing they find no matter how bad it taste to get real results. Thank you for the amazing advice!

I agree that following a meal plan is really helpful if you are going on a healthy diet because you can track your calorie count and this could also help you discipline you on having just right amount of food you eat every meal. Recipe.

Do you know love does not do?

It doesn’t keep a record of wrongs. What does that really mean? It implies that you pardon. Absolution is the demonstration of discharging somebody from an obligation that they owe you… whether this is a money related obligation, physical obligation or passionate obligation, it doesn’t make a difference.

    Ventures to Forgiveness:

    1) Acknowledgment of the offense

At the point when there is an issue in the middle of you and your accomplice, you have to bring it up and discuss it. On the off chance that your life partner has insulted you and you don’t bring it up, you miss a chance to demonstrate your companion that you adore enough to excuse them and your mate misses the chance to comprehend you better.

    2) Choose to Forgive

When you have affronted your mate, it is evident that you have to apologize in a true way. In like manner, it ought to be clear that when you are the person who is harmed, you have to offer pardoning. This procedure discharges brings the relationship into equalization again and it is crucial to the procedure of pardoning.

    3) Restore the Relationship

In the wake of recognizing the issue and experiencing the procedure of requesting absolution and giving it, it is imperative to proceed with the procedure of rebuilding through compromise and building up a more profound association with your life partner. What would you be able to gain from this and in what manner would you be able to improve/contrastingly later on?

    4) Extend Grace and Love

When somebody has harmed you, be the first to endeavor to stretch out affection and effortlessness to your companion. It is a marvelous chance to demonstrate your life partner that paying little respect to what they have done, you cherish them, are focused on them and excuse them. Re-insisting the relationship is the best thing you can do to re-manufacture and restore the trust in the relationship.

    5) Stop Talking about it

This is presumably a standout among the most essential steps! When you have excused somebody – be finished with it! Release it! Bringing it up whenever later on demonstrates your accomplice that your oath can’t be trusted and are childish and “fussy” in your affection.

Trust is lost in that you had given your oath to excuse when you truly have not pardoned them. You are narrow minded in that you put who you are as more vital than your life partner is by withholding the affection for pardoning from them.

Recognize, Choose, Restore, Extend and Stop (ACRES)

Take after these progressions to pardoning and your relationship will be better for it… This is for your marriage, as well as for any relationship, you have. I guarantee you that on the off chance that you pick absolution, you won’t just help other people however yourself. Hard feelings are depleting and as the Sloth from Ice Age said, “I’m excessively sluggish, making it impossible to hold resentment.”
