Top 3 Reasons Good Photos Help Performance

February 8, 2011 By Christina ChitwoodFigure Skating Performance, Performance for Everyday Life, Performance Tips

I’ve always loved having my photo taken. I’ve had good training over the years because my mom always loved taking photos. My mom’s photo taking (she considers herself the family paparazzi!) was a great way for me to feel natural in front of the camera.

I’m now the second generation of Chitwood family paparazzi, and I know I will continue that once my husband and I have children of our own. Not only are photos a great way to keep memories alive forever, but they are also a great way to develop your inner performer.

Here are the top 3 reasons I recommend having good photos for any type of performance, including performance for everyday life:

1. The more photos you have taken, the more comfortable you become in front of the camera. This works with improving your smile or developing a range of expressions for the camera.

2. Pictures are memories, so you’re creating a keepsake with each photo. Some traditional photos throughout life are baby photos, senior photos, graduation photos, wedding photos, and photos of your kids. These are things you love to show future generations. Why not have those moments more often? Have that photo at your anniversary, when you’re celebrating a big promotion, or at any event you want to remember.

You can have an inexpensive photo shoot with your friends by taking photos of each other at your house, a park, or wherever you want. Informal photo shoots with friends can be fun, and they’re great practice. My friends and I have always loved our informal photo shoots.

There are also photos available for purchase from many events you attend. Photos from a sporting event, performance, or trip to an amusement park may be expensive, but as the saying goes, they’re priceless.

3. Performers need photos. If you’re a performer and are approached by a talent scout, agent, or want to audition for a role, you’re going to need a good headshot and most likely some more professional photos. Plus, if you have some professional photos, you’ll enjoy showing them to your kids someday.

Here’s a helpful article from How-To: Figure Skating on the importance of good photos for getting a skating partner and information on networking websites for photos:  How to: Procure a partner with perfect pictures! Note: for any photo shoot, be safe! Check out the photographer first, and go to the photo shoot with a parent if you’re young. If you’re older, go with a friend, boyfriend, or husband for safety – and allow them to be with you at all times.

Above is a photo from a very fun photo shoot I had at Image 1st in London. I’ve entered the Guest List Valentine’s Day Photo Contest on Facebook with the photo. I’d greatly appreciate your vote! You can vote once each day until Valentine’s Day.

Have some fun taking photos and having your photo taken – and don’t forget to get at least one photo on Valentine’s Day! 🙂
