Well? What are you doing? Where are you going with your fitness? Where is your training taking you? What are you trying to accomplish with all that sweat and coconut water?
Everyone Is Different
Fit Body Full Life is at the IDEA World Fitness Convention in LA this week. This event (in particular Blog Fest) is so much fun! We get to meet and share ideas with many health, fitness, and nutritional bloggers … running blogs, yoga blogs, weightlifting blogs, sport specific blogs, food blogs, vegan food blogs, paleo blogs, crossfit blogs, you name it! If it’s fitness related, someone’s blogging about it!
12,000 fitness pro’s from 50 different countries!
At IDEA World Fitness Convention, we get to meet tons of great people all with different fitness goals. Everybody looks different, trains differently, eats differently, and has different ambitions for their own fitness. So……..what are yours?
What Are You Wanting To Achieve?
Are you looking for more athletic ability? To run farther? To drop a clothes size? Beat your personal best lifts?
The most important question to ask yourself is, “Am I doing what I need to be doing to achieve this?”
Are you getting off track? I’m guilty of getting off track all the time. Trying to lift heavier when I should be working on movement mechanics. Wanting to go for a hike when ideally I should be working on developing power. OK, so maybe I’m too hard on myself. I don’t currently compete in my sport, so the consequences of going off track aren’t big. My point is that If I stuck to my plan, I would get better results.
How Do I Figure out How to Train?
Well, that’s a massive question! And to be honest, it’s one I can’t answer. The best person to figure that out is you! You know your goals. You know your current position. You know your own body. I can, however, give you some tips.
– Function is ALWAYS going to be high on your list of priorities.
If your body isn’t functioning well, if you can’t move with good range of motion, you can’t perform at your best at whatever you are trying to do (run, jump, push, pull, throw, balance, lift, whatever it is).
– Talk to the experts in your field.
If you want to train to be a stronger, faster tennis player, talk to a tennis coach or fitness coach who knows about training athletes for rotary power and physical endurance. If you want to run faster, consult a coach who coaches runners or join a running club. Read blogs. Blogs are the new textbooks. They are a great source of information. Research and gather as much information as possible.
– Make a plan and stick to your plan.
Remember your main goal, why you want to achieve it and stick to that plan!

Some very actionable tips there Tom. I’m injured at the moment- a had a knee impact while biking 2 weeks back. Right now I’m taking PT and chiro at a sports injury clinic in Toronto called AESM ( http://aesm.ca ), but I’m very much looking forward to put a plan in place to get back to the track. As you said, we gotta make a plan and stick to the plan. 🙂
Your first question, what are you wanting to achieve, is where it all starts. I found the more specific the goal, the better chance you have to reach it. Saying, “I want to start running” is a good goal and nothing wrong with that. But, saying, “I want to run a 5k” gives your running more purpose. You now have a “target” to hit: 3.1 miles! Happy training! 🙂
Thank you very mush ….
