A divot, or the chunk of ground you turf up when hitting a golf ball, is perhaps not the most exciting thing in your golf game. But it can give you more insight into your swing. Try this quick diagnosis.
Divot aims to the left of your target
If the divot you just took is aimed left of your target, this means your swing came through the ball on an “out to in” path. Chances are your shot was either a pull, a pull hook or a pull slice. The ball probably started left of your target. Maybe you wanted to play a fade. You can check that your swing path came through left of your target.
Divot aims to the right of your target
This indicates that your club came through on an “in to out” path. So this will give the opposite shots – a push, a push slice or a push hook. Your ball probably started right of your target. This is the divot you want to see if you played a draw.
So next time you play, check the line of your divots after your shot and before you replace them! You might discover a common swing path.
Excellent golf tip, Tom 🙂
I liked that metaphor! Aim, yes!
