3 Workouts from Your Car

October 19, 2010 By Christina ChitwoodFitness, Workouts

You probably spend part of your day driving around, travelling to work to errands to home. If you have children, you spend a lot more time driving them to and from school, activities, and more. By the time you’ve done all this travelling and a day of work, the last thing you feel like doing is working out.

Does that feeling sound familiar? Well, this is a common feeling, but there are some quick solutions to try without leaving your car!

Here are 3 workouts from your car. Extra time required – none!

1. Breathe deeply. Try deep breathing at every red light while performing some of the below exercises or just on its own.  You can really activate your abdominals and pelvic floor muscles by following my tips for breathing deeply.

2. Glute clenches. Try to perform alternate or combined glute clenches by squeezing your buttocks muscles 20 times or as many times as you can at a red light.

3. Steering wheel squeezes. With your hands at the 10 o’clock and 2 o’clock positions on the steering wheel, press inwards on the wheel and release 20 times. This is an exercise that emphasizes your chest muscles. Another great exercise to do at a red light!

I’d love to hear how these ideas work for you or if you have any other car workouts you like to do. 🙂

    Hi, Chrissy!

This is terrific. I can do the first two at my desk at work, too.

I bet this would be good on my drive to 6 a.m. ice. Too bad most miles are freeway w/o stoplights. 🙂

Thanks so much for your comment, Ice Mom! You certainly could do the first two at you desk at work. 🙂 Also, you could try pushing down on you desk to work the upper body some. Have a great day!

I mostly do the first two workouts – breathing and glute clenches in my car but never tried the third one. Will surely check it out. Thanks.

Wow that is an innovative article. Exercising using your car? Sounds like something most people are yet to give a try. I do the first one occasionally but never tried the other two. About time perhaps to try them.

Agree with you. I have heard this kind of innovative thing for the very first time. I believe it will be a very enjoyable experience for most of us. 🙂

I didn’t know workout is possible while you’re inside the car or while you’re even driving it. Definitely, I will try these 3 workouts explained in your blog to save my time. I can run errands everyday and at the same time, do some workout to not put my health taken for granted.
