Welcome to day 23 of the 30-Day Nutrition Challenge! If you are running short of ideas for healthy meals, worry not. Here are 6 healthy meals from around the world to keep your taste buds guessing and full of energy. Why did I select these countries? Well, I was scanning through some of our blog stats and was checking to see which countries viewed us the most. So these 6 countries are currently visiting Fit Body Full Life the most (not including US). Thank you!
I chose these dishes because they appear to be healthy, and I would love to try them!
China – chou dou fu (Stinky Tofu)
Apparently it smells worse than it tastes. Not much of a sales pitch there, I know. But from the picture it certainly looks tasty. Because I am doing the vegetarian and sugar-free challenge, I look for any interesting ways to eat tofu, a great source of protein.
Ukraine – Borshch
Borshch is the traditional Ukrainian beet root soup. Apparently there is a saying in Ukraine that no girl shall be able to get married unless she can make a good borshch. Made with beet root and a host of other vegetables including cabbage, spinach, tomatoes and potatoes, borshch is served as an appetizer or as a main. This is an extremely versatile dish. I will definitely be trying to cook up a batch of borshch soon!
France – Ratatouille
A dish so good Disney/Pixar made a movie out of it. The vegetable dish including tomatoes, onions, garlic, zucchini, eggplant and many more is used as a side dish, a stuffing for crepes or omelets or as a dish in itself. Try this Easy French Ratatouille recipe for a massive and varied dose of vegetables to have you powering through the day.
Canada – Split Pea Soup
This Real French Canadian Pea Soup recipe is another recipe I will certainly be trying very soon. This particular recipe for the Canadian treat is vegan, but you could make it your own and add whatever you like. Split peas will provide you with a nice amount of protein and fiber. So follow in Oliver Twist’s footsteps and ask, “Can I have some more please?”
Poland – Zupa ogorkowa (Cucumber Soup)
A popular and common dish in Poland. I have always loved cucumbers, so naturally I want to try this dish out. Made with sour, pickled cucumbers and potatoes, this dish is a staple in any Polish household.
Germany – Kartoffelpuffer
I would try these on the name alone! These look very tasty. Take a look at this “Kartoffelpuffer or Authentic German Potato Pancakes Recipe” video to find out how to make your own.
I think they would be great with some fresh blueberries and some almonds in the pancake mix. Just go easy on the salt if you try it!
