DIY Closet of Your Dreams

September 29, 2017 By Christina ChitwoodBeauty, Fashion, Style

Have you dreamed of having a closet like the celebrities have? Do you wish you had the closet you’ve always dreamed of? I certainly have, and I’m thrilled to share with you the DIY Closet of Your Dreams that doesn’t have to break the bank!

Closet of Your Dreams

In early 2017 my amazing husband, Tom, gave me an incredible gift of buying and putting together the closet of my own dreams! I’ve been dying to share this for such a long time, and I finally am sharing the wonderful closet that I’ve been absolutely loving using this year!

Guess what? It’s from IKEA, and you can make it as huge or as small as you like to truly create the closet you’ve always wanted. Or if you want to start smaller and continue growing it over time, that would probably work since it’s IKEA. It’s a Pax wardrobe!

Update (8/8/19): We sold this house and bought a different house. I will be doing individual blog posts on each part of the closet (handbags, shoes, vanity, clothing) using photos from both houses to help you put together the closet you really want. That way you can see how a closet like this works in two completely different spaces. The posts will each be up on ChristinaChitwood.com, but I will also add them to this blog post, so pin this post to refer back to. In the meantime, here’s a look at the finished product and what my DIY dream closet looks like!

Designing My Dream Closet

When I went about designing the closet I’ve always wanted, there were a few things that were really important to me:

  •  A handbag closet! Handbags are a favorite of mine. If you treat them well, you can keep them for many years. I especially enjoy using my handbags over and over and having them on display makes it so easy to switch my handbag out whenever I want to for a certain outfit.

  • A shoe closet! A pretty way to store shoes from thigh-high boots to flats. I love being able to easily choose my shoes for the day, and it’s fun to be able to see my collection.
  • A vanity! I’ve always loved makeup since I was very young. Having been a professional ice dancer, makeup became a part of my career way before I became a blogger. Having a beautiful place to store and apply my makeup is so special. I used acrylic makeup organizers in the drawers of my vanity between my handbag and shoe closets. The makeup organizers really help with keeping my makeup tidy, and it’s simple to find any makeup product I need.
  • Clothing closets with a variety of heights to fit dresses of all lengths as well as the rest of my clothes! Having a DIY closet means I was able to decide exactly how much room I needed to hang long dresses/maxi dresses, regular tops, shorter tops, and everything in between. It meant being able to maximize on the storage space in every way.

I’d love a walk in with shelving I could actually reach, upper and lower hanging areas, shelves for folded garments and hooks for belts and such, The one in the pics is lovely but I would like mine behind a door with a seating area and drawers for panties and things
