How to Lose Weight This Summer

July 9, 2016 By Christina ChitwoodFitness, Nutrition

Do you want to lose weight for a trip later this summer? Do you want to look better in your bikini or swim trunks? Do you want to feel healthier when the weather is warmer? It isn’t too late to get started! Here are tips to help you lose weight this summer!

How to Lose Weight This Summer

Lose Weight This Summer

Losing weight can feel overwhelming. With all the different diets and information on losing weight, it’s easy to get mixed messages and not know where to start. If you aren’t wanting to go on a specific diet and still lose weight, this will be great for you.

Burn More Calories Than You Consume

In order to lose weight you need to burn more calories than you consume!

There are two basic ways to do this:

1. Work out more.

2. Eat healthier, less calorific food.

You can use either method on its own, but combining working out more and eating less is the ultimate way to achieve your goals! You’re probably thinking it’s not that easy. It’s not going to be easy, but it also doesn’t have to be that difficult. There will be challenges to overcome and temptations in the way, but you can do this!

Keep the Weight-Loss for Good

Usually the weight-loss diets for summer mean quick weight loss for summer – and then put the pounds back on because the weight loss was so quick. Wouldn’t it be great to lose weight for summer and keep it off?!

In order to lose body fat in a healthy way, you want to lose 1-2 pounds per week. It may not seem like a lot, but a month of this and you’ve lost about 5-10 pounds. Plus, you’re going to be able to keep it off much easier. To lose 1 pound, you need to burn 3,500 calories more than normal or consume 3,500 calories less than normal. As mentioned before, though, if you combine working out more with eating fewer calories, you will have better results.

Lose One Pound Per Week Easily

What do you need to do to lose one pound per week easily?

End up with 500 calories per day less than normal! Do this by burning calories through working out and eating fewer calories.

All you need to do is this:

Walk briskly, approximately 3.5 mph, for 30 minutes. As a female you should burn around 185 calories and as a male around 230 calories. Then, if you usually eat a candy bar (typically around 300 calories), cut that out of your daily routine. With one less candy bar per day and 30 minutes additional brisk walking, you’re at your goal of 500 fewer calories per day, which will make you 1 pound lighter each week!

Of course, you can do other workouts besides walking. Walking is great for all fitness levels. Even if you’re new to exercise, you can start walking right away. The higher intensity the workout the higher the calorie burn. Therefore, you will burn more calories in a shorter period of time. For some higher intensity workouts, check out my dance workouts and these body-weight exercises for adults and even some for kids.

Not All Calories Are Equal Nutritionally

I highly recommend eating plant-based! It’s great for your health, and it’s almost guaranteed to help you lose weight.

Do you think the these two meals below are equal nutritionally?

A 300 Calorie Cheese Pizza (most pizzas including cheese pizzas are higher calorie than this)

Or

A 300 Calorie Plant-based Meal of Vegetables, Quinoa, and Legumes

Are these two 300-calorie meals equal nutritionally? No. They are both 300 calories, but there is far more nutritional value in the plant-based meal. Just think of how many vegetables you could eat with a 300-calorie allowance!

If you eat plant-based with the calories that you aren’t cutting out and you burn more calories by working out, you will look and feel leaner this summer.

How Will You Lose Weight This Summer?

Obviously, there are many other ways to have 500 fewer calories per day. So be creative. If you tend to eat out each day, you could save calories by eating healthier at home. Just make sure you choose a healthy option.

Remember, each healthy choice you make helps – and 30 minutes of walking and one less candy bar can do the trick! 🙂

How will you lose weight this summer? Will you eat fewer and healthier calories, will you burn more calories, or will you do both?

Have fun!

“In order to lose weight you need to burn more calories than you consume!”

Such a basic principle that seems so difficult for most of us to follow. My problem is the more calories I burn, the more I consume.

Thanks for your comment, Thomas! I agree that it’s basic but also difficult to follow at the same time. A helpful way to keep the calories down when you’re burning more is: consume whole foods (beans, brown rice, quinoa, fruits, and vegetables) for most of your daily calories and record what you eat. It will help you be less hungry and more satisfied. Have a great weekend! 🙂

Working out and eat healthier foods is really basic but these tips is really effective in losing weight. I can attest to its effectiveness since I’ve tried it myself. Diet doesn’t work alone without exercise!

I was a fond of candy bar before but now I hardly eat them. May be once in a week. It is helping me to gear up my weight loss process. Also, I drink a lot of water after my regular workout. 🙂

I think the balance between working out and decreasing the amount of what eaten is much important for great results.

Water is such a remarkable thing,
but seldom do we give it the credit that it
deserves. Did you know that over 66% of your
body weight is nothing but water

A cleaned-up diet full of whole, natural foods is essential for weight-loss success. Lucky for us, some of our favorite Summer fruits and vegetables are packed with nutrition that works in our favor.

Pineapple is high in the enzyme bromelain, which helps break down protein and ease digestion. Supporting your digestive system supports all your weight-loss goals while beating pesky bloat.

Watermelon is 92 percent water, and eating it on a hot day will keep you feeling your best and help you beat the pesky bloat that can come from dehydration. This oh-so-refreshing treat also curbs heavy dessert cravings; swapping in a slice for a piece of cake or brownie will save you tons of calories.

Raspberries contain the flavonoid anthocyanin, which helps your body produce adiponectin, a hormone that’s been linked to lower glucose levels, curbed cravings, and boosted metabolism. And whether they’re fresh or frozen, they’re a great source of fiber, an essential nutrient that improves digestion and helps beat bloat — one cup of raspberries offers eight grams!

After working out more and taking less calorie food one can reduce his weight easily.

Weight loss will always have to have as a major ally, the good food. There are people who kill in gyms , but does nothing different about food on a daily basis .

Well, Weight Loss is such a difficult task, specially for lazy peoples, like me, but the fitness bracelets really helps, they track our activities and do a hell lot of things to give a push and remove our laziness, so we can work hard and get our-self fit.

Along with the help of the gadget, I do a lot of walking and running and then some Jim, when I get some time free. SO, it is working very fine these days.

I’ve never liked the word diet, as you say it sounds too much like denial and sacrifice when what we eat should be nurturing and nourishing and let’s face it, feel good to eat it!

I have found that when I really bare down and work hard at working out and trying to lose weight, it can be a real bear. To actually achieve results I have to work harder than I actually think I need to. I already feel like I’m working super hard but don’t get very good results. I think a lot of people don’t realize just how hard you have to work at it and give up before they start to see tangible results.
