Giving is such a special part of life. It helps others and is self-rewarding as well. I’ve been thinking a lot about giving this month as the Salvation Army Kroc Center in San Diego has a very special fundraising campaign right now called “Heroes with a Heart.”
The Kroc Center has a goal of raising $70,000 in scholarships by the end of next week. The scholarships will only be used to help underprivileged individuals of all ages participate in Kroc Center events and classes.
As an ice-skating coach at the Kroc Center Ice Arena, I’m excited to be involved in this fundraising program. I see the benefits to children and adults using the scholarship program and truly believe it can change lives.
Here are some examples of what the scholarships are used for:
- $88 allows an underprivileged person to attend an 8-week group ice skating session.
- $180.00 allows a child to attend a week of Summer Camp.
- $30.00 a month allows a senior citizen to attend the “Silver Sneakers” workout group.
Here’s a link to more information and a calendar of special events that are supporting Heroes with a Heart.
Please look into your heart to see if you would like to help by donating money to this cause. Donations are tax deductible, and your gift can also be spread out over a period of time monthly, semi-annually, or as one lump sum later in the year. Any size donation will help. To make a donation, call 619-269-1408.
Even if you decide this isn’t for you right now, perhaps it will spark giving in another area of your life. I’d love to hear about your favorite ways to make a difference! 🙂
Good luck with the fundraising. I know some people are going to be really excited to get those scholarships!
