THING 1 AND THING 2 RUNNING WITH A KITE EXERCISE FOR KIDS – YOUTUBE VIDEO

My 3-year-old niece, Zoey, demonstrates the Thing 1 and Thing 2 running with a kite exercise with me in this video! Zoey has been having fun wearing the hat for Dr. Seuss activities! If you’re looking for a Cat in the Hat hat, I definitely recommend this Cat in the Hat kids hat (Zoey is wearing this hat) and Cat in the Hat adult hat (I’m wearing this hat).

HOW TO DO THING 1 AND THING 2 RUNNING WITH A KITE EXERCISE

This exercise can be done with one or more kids of all ages and adults. The exercise can be done individually, taking turns with someone else, or together at the same time.

      1. Read the book, Cat in the Hat.
      2. Watch the video (above).
      3. Teach the exercise by going through the steps below.
      4. Decide on a length of time, distance, or repetitions to do the exercise.
      5. Decide on a number of sets or length of time the exercise will be repeated.
      6. Have fun running with a kite like Thing 1 and Thing 2!

THING 1 AND THING 2 RUNNING WITH A KITE EXERCISE FOR KIDS

The Thing 1 and Thing 2 running with a kite exercise for kids is focused on movement, coordination, posture, core strength, strength, control, balance, quickness, and physical fitness.

When performing the Thing 1 and Thing 2 running with a kite exercise with kids, it’s important to keep these in mind:

      1. Introduce running forward. Have the child run forward. Arms can be wherever the child naturally puts them. You don’t need to specify for this option.
      2. Add one arm up like flying a kite with one arm. You can help the child place hand and arm to help him or her feel the hand and arm placement as well as understand the exercise better.
      3. Add arm two arms together like flying a kite with two arms (more advanced). Have the child add a second arm together. It provides more of a challenge to keep two arms together doing the same movement because the child needs to focus on two arms instead of just having to focus on what one arm is doing.
      4. Focus on fun and controlled range of motion. This exercise is meant to be fun and to have as big and fast of movement as possible while maintaining control.
      5. Remind kids about using good posture and engaging abdominals. Encourage kids to make themselves as tall as possible by bringing their head closer to the ceiling and pulling their belly button in toward the back wall (drawing their belly button into their spine), and keep good posture throughout the exercise. It can be tough to maintain good posture as they get tired, but good posture increases the effectiveness immensely. It will also help prevent injury.
      6. Encourage kids to keep trying. As long as they are trying and moving, encourage them! This will help them gain confidence. Then you can begin to refine the movement as confidence increases.

PROGRESSIONS OF THE THING 1 AND THING 2 RUNNING WITH A KITE EXERCISE FOR KIDS

When it’s apparent that your child is ready to progress to a more difficult version of the Thing 1 and Thing 2 running with a kite exercise, here are some progressions to try while performing the exercise:

            1. Change arm positions.
            2. Increase speed forward.
            3. Increase quickness.
            4. Increase repetitions 0r length.
